What Is Essential Rewards?
by Jodi McKenna
Essential Rewards is a fancy name for Auto Ship. That’s because it automatically ships. But by being named Essential Rewards, Young Living is suggesting to your brain that ordering monthly is essential to your life and you will be rewarded for spending your money. In large part, this beautiful marketing scheme is true. Seriously, the more we use the essential oils the less we use OTC products and visit our doctor.
It is actually a bit better, though. There is a bonus (potential) reward in the form of:
- free products delivered to your door each month
- flat rate shipping
- the ability to accumulate Product Value points to use towards ordering Young Living products for free.
I call it a Life Box.
What is Essential Rewards, really?
Essential Rewards is your way of assuring that your mailman will deliver a package to your front door each month.
You could say I send myself mail. I’m that desperate. I really, really, really appreciate a good mail day.
With Essential Rewards you sign up to purchase Young Living products each month. You can pick WHATEVER you want, or choose from any one of the Essential Rewards kits. I typically choose my own Life Box, as I like to call it.

I like Essential Rewards for the free stuff.
I’ll be honest. It’s also nice to brag to my friends (you know, those that aren’t on Essential Rewards) that my shipping is cheaper than theirs. And when they complain about not having any Frankincense, I might let it slip that I have gotten three free bottles of the stuff without paying for them.
How Much Do You Spend on Essential Rewards?
As much as you want to.
You have to order 50 PV (product value). Typically 50 PV = $50 . . . but not always.
Moral of the story, before you SAVE your Essential Rewards order, check to make sure you have ordered 50 PV not $50.
Now, you can order more than 50 PV. (Please do.) For example, I normally order around 150 PV. Why? Well, because the Lord has allowed me to have people sign up as Young Living Distributors under me. Because of this unexpected fan club, I have the ability to earn a paycheck. However, in order to collect that income, I have to place an order of 100 PV or more. I am what you call, a Business Builder. My paycheck from Young Living more than covers my monthly Life Box or Essential Rewards order.
NOTE: Now don’t go thinking that if you order 100 PV that you have to make a business of this. Absolutely NOT. To be quite honest, I might even tell you to avoid attempting to make a business out of it. If you are a young mom . . . stick to raising those babies. Every day I wrestle with a divided mind – teaching those eager to learn about essential oils and educating and loving on the sweet faces who climb into my bed each morning. But the reason, the Engineer and I have peace about me continuing the Naturally His essential oil community is because God has given us a calling and a passion to share Jesus through these essential oils. It also is the creative way that we feel the Lord is going to use to allow us to be full time missionaries at some point, without having to raise support.
How Do You Earn FREE Points?
Basically when you place an order, you earn a percentage of points back off of that order. This percentage grows with time.
So, if you order 100 PV the first month, you would earn 10 PV points towards free products.
After 6 months, if you place a 100 PV order then you would earn 15 PV back.
Guess what, at 13 plus months, your 100 PV order would earn you 20 PV back.
I typically let my points sit and accumulate and then place a big ‘ol order, because you still have to pay shipping. Now, you can only redeem 350 PV at a time. And you must redeem your points within the 12 months you accumulated them.
When Can You Redeem Your Essential Rewards Points?
A short and sweet answer: once you have been on Essential Rewards for 2 months. But seriously, you wouldn’t have a lot to redeem unless you placed a $1000 order each time. If that is the case, please sign up under me. (Did I just say that?)
Can I Quit Essential Rewards?
Yes. However, you will loose your points. And if you decide to rejoin – you have to start back at 10%.
How Much Is Shipping?
The shipping is $6.98 for the first 5 pounds. And then $0.63 for each additional pound. Of course, shipping is more for Alaska and Hawaii. Our Canadian friends’ shipping is $9.75, but if they order from the Canadian Young Living then maybe it is cheaper?
Sign Me Up!
This is the part where I tell you that you have to be a Young Living Distributor.
There are two ways to sign up for Essential Rewards:
- the old fashioned way would be to fill out the Essential Rewards Enrollment form and fax it to Young Living (866) 203-5666. (I think I would change that number.)
- sign up through your Young Living Virtual Office
